Well, we’re almost ready! We’re now in that phase where we’re trying to get everything packed up ready to move to our new premises at Cardrew in Redruth… The great event will be happening at the end of this month, so we wanted to let you know what’s going to be happening!
When do you move?
We open at our new premises on Monday 30th July at 8.30am; we’ll be closing our Drump Road surgery at 6.30pm on Wednesday 25th. On Thursday 26th, Friday 27th and Saturday 28th July we will not have an open Redruth surgery and we will only be open in Camborne with 3 Vets and extended surgery times. If you need to find us, we’re based on off Trevithick Road, off Fore Street. We’re just past Argos and we are on the right hand side, just next to a large pay and display car park – although we do have some parking, it’s quite limited.
Where are you going again?
We’re going to be based in the old Cardrew Health Centre – 60 Cardrew Industrial Estate, Cardrew Way, Redruth, TR15 1SS. This has been completely refurbished over the last nine months to make it into a modern and state-of-the-art surgery!
Why did you have to move?
We’re growing, and we just don’t have enough space in our current premises! We now have twice as many vets as we did four years ago, and of course, we’ve needed more support staff, vet nurses and receptionists as well. We’ve also had problems with the design of the current building – it wasn’t really designed with modern veterinary care in mind, and as a result we haven’t been able to make best use of our staff’s skills, or the imaging and diagnostic equipment we have.
For example, at the moment we have only one operating theatre and adjoining prep area, meaning that we’re limited to one operation at a time. The new building has four operating theatres (!) – two for “clean” surgeries such as spays, internal operations, or orthopaedic procedures for animals with bone or joint problems; one for dental surgery, and a modern high-tech imaging suite for X-rays, ultrasound and other diagnostic procedures.
The old building also has a major problem with limited consult rooms – our patients sometimes have to wait to be seen until there’s a free room… We’ll now have more consult rooms, which means shorter waiting times for you! We’ve also got a MUCH bigger car park, reducing the horrible traffic jams that we suffer at the moment.
Our current waiting room is also very limited – while it’s OK for dogs, there’s no quiet, safe place for cats to wait. This is being remedied in the new premises, where our reception area has a cat only zone that will help us to meet International Society for Feline Medicine (ISFM) “Cat-Friendly Clinic” standards.
So what do I need to know?
Well, there will inevitably be some disruption while we change over. The key things are that:
1) We need to ask people to be organised with their repeat medication and food. Collections will be from Camborne and not Redruth over this time.
2) Anyone who books online needs to be aware that from the 30th July, their appointment will be at the Cardrew surgery not Drump Road.
What about emergencies?
We will still be providing the service your animals need, despite the disruption! Also, we’d like to reassure you that the Redruth phone number – 01209 214737 – will be staying the same even though we’re moving.
